PUBLIC LIBRARIES


According to UNESCO Public Library Manifesto,
The definition of a Public Library is:
It is a library which ,
1) is financed for most part out of public funds.
2) charges no fees from readers and yet is open for full use by the public without distinction of caste,creed or sex.
3)is intended as an auxiliary educational institution providing a means of self education which is endless;
4)houses educative & informative materials giving reliable information freely & without partiality or prejudice on as wide a variety of subjects as will satisfy the interests of readers.

Thus we see that Public Libraries are unique in following aspects :-

SPECIAL LIBBRARIES


The major and perhaps only objective of a Special Library is the provision of information ,in support of the objectives of its parent organisation.
However,special libraries are established to serve a particular group of users or an activity or specialists working on a subject or a group of subjects or a particular type of documents,etc.

Special libraries also assume different names like technical library,business information centres & research information service ,etc.
